Saint Francis Mission Sisters

We, the Saint Francis Mission Sisters, envision our charism as one of simple, gospel living. Through contemplation, we come to a deep love of Jesus Christ and the ongoing conversion that enables us to live gospel values.

Our community of Francisican Sisters is a branch of a congregation founded in Switzerland in the 16th century. in 1892, in answer to an earnest plea from a Bishop in Ecuador, a small group of sisters left their Swiss Convent for the missions of South America. A group of these sisters, under Sister Caritas Brader, crossed over into Colombia and grew into our congregation of Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate, gradually their work spread and flouished throughout regions of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Central America, and the Southwestern United States. The first establishment of our Francisican Sisters in the United States was made in Amarillo, Texas, on August 15, 1932. In 1981, a group of these sisters was authorized to branch out to form our group, which is known as the Saint Francis Mission Sisters.
